Counseling

We consider it of utmost importance to take care of the emotional and spiritual needs of our students. Adolescence is a difficult time and even more so today with all of the pressures students face in making decisions about the future course of their life. At TMI we have multiple resources for helping students in their struggle to act consistently in accord with their conscience and moral standards. Inasmuch as our mission statement seeks to establish an excellent educational community with values based on the teachings of Jesus Christ, the expectation for ethical behavior is very high. Our mission statement together with our honor code encourage habits of virtue that will enable our students to assume roles of leadership and great responsibility. Our primary goal in counseling is to challenge our students to realize their potential and to choose courses of action that are consistent with their own sense of right and wrong. Learning the habit of virtue instills a sense a self worth and confidence.

Sometimes, however, our students, because of personal or family issues, have problems that need greater attention. Our Chaplain and School counselor are vigilant in identifying students with such problems and together they offer the best in spiritual and emotional guidance. Should the issue be larger than they can handle, we have a list of qualified professionals we trust to help in diagnosing the problems and charting a path back to health and wholeness.

Our school Counselor also handles college counseling. Skilled in coaching kids over major hurdles, she is quite competent in helping them sort through the many options available in order to select the best school for the individual.
