Student Life
TMI is in many ways a counter cultural institution in the most positive sense of the term. At a time when many independent schools have become less structured, TMI has preserved a culture in which discipline and structure are valued and students are encouraged to treat adults and one another with courtesy, thoughtfulness, and respect.
The atmosphere at TMI is Christian, but ecumenical. Our purpose is to prepare servant leaders for the Church and nation. As such, Jesus Christ is the Model of school ideals, and our standards are necessarily high in every aspect of student life. Student behavior is governed by an honor code, and all students are subject to a dress code.
The school’s motto is “To lead is to serve,” and the watchwords of student life are “high standards, hard work, and a helping community.” TMI is a wholesome community in which daily chapel services, under the direction of a highly respected Chaplain, have become an important component of the school culture and student life.
