Facts and Figures
AN EPISCOPAL CHURCH SCHOOL
Founded in 1893 by Bishop James “Steptoe” Johnston, TMI is the oldest Episcopal college preparatory school in the Southwest. TMI welcomes young men and women of all backgrounds to apply. Our day program serves 335 students in grades 6-12; this year 36 students are participating in our boarding program offered for grades 9-12. More than 120 students participate in TMI’s nationally distinguished optional JROTC program. The student to teacher ratio is 9:1 and the average class size is 14. TMI has 44 full-time faculty members, over 50 percent of whom hold advanced degrees. TMI students enjoy 100 percent college placement.
ACCREDITATION
TMI is fully accredited by the Independent Schools Association of the Southwest (ISAS). The school is a member of the National Association of Episcopal Schools (NAES), the Southwestern Association of Episcopal Schools (SAES), as well as the Association of Military College and Schools of the United States, and the Southwest Preparatory Conference (SPC).
UPPER SCHOOL CURRICULUM
TMI offers a college preparatory program for all its students.
SELECTION FOR HONORS AND AP COURSES
Students must petition to be in Honors or AP courses. They are required to submit an application, which often includes submitting an essay or a piece of work related to the subject, and secure a recommendation from their current teacher in the subject area. Teachers review the applications to ensure that students are offered equal to or a bit above their demonstrated ability.
ATHLETICS
TMI competes athletically in the Southwest Preparatory Conference in cross country, football, volleyball, basketball, soccer, swimming, golf, lacrosse, and tennis.
ACTIVITIES
The faculty sponsors the National Honor Society, the Student Council, the Honor Council, the Environmental Explorers Club, the Community Service Corps, and Christian Fellowship.
